What is Tissue ? — Free written notes for Biology - 9TH on EduFlame Pakistan.
A tissue is a group of similar cells that work together to perform a specific function in the body. Just like a single cell is the basic building block of life, tissues are the next level of organization where many cells join to do a common job.
Concept of Tissue:
You can imagine it like a team. One player alone can do some work, but a whole team working together can do much more organized and powerful work. In the same way, when cells of the same type come together, they form a tissue that can perform tasks more efficiently than a single cell.
Examples in Animals:
For example, in animals, muscle tissue is made of muscle cells that work together to help the body move. Nerve tissue is made of nerve cells that carry messages from one part of the body to another.
Examples in Plants:
In plants, there is tissue that helps transport water and food, and another type that helps in support and strength.
So in simple words, a tissue is a collection of similar cells working together to perform a particular function in an organized way inside a living organism.
