Summary
Set during the Mau Mau uprising in Kenya, the story takes place in a tense atmosphere of colonial violence and fear. A white settler woman is alone in her home when a Kikuyu man arrives. Because of the political situation, she immediately assumes he intends to harm her. However, the situation is not as simple as her fear suggests. The encounter exposes the deep mistrust, fear, and misunderstanding created by colonial rule. The story focuses less on action and more on psychological tension and perception.
