What is Morphology?

The word happy carries the basic meaning. The prefix un adds the meaning of negation, while the suffix ness changes the adjective into a noun. Morphology studies these meaningful units and explains how they combine to form new words and meanings.

It is closely related to phonology, which studies speech sounds, and syntax, which studies sentence structure.
