Addressing Social Inequalities and Injustices in Pakistan — Free written notes for Civic and Community Engagement on EduFlame Pakistan.
Social inequality occurs when resources, opportunities, and privileges are distributed unevenly in a society. When this inequality becomes deeply rooted and systemic, it leads to social injustice.
Key Areas of Inequality in Pakistan:
Education and Health: There is a stark contrast between elite private institutions and underfunded government schools, as well as between urban hospitals and rural clinics. This denies equal opportunity to the poor.
Economic Disparity: The concentration of wealth in the hands of a few while a significant portion of the population lives below the poverty line creates immense social friction.
The Justice System: Often, the poor lack the financial resources to fight lengthy legal battles, leading to situations where justice is delayed or denied.
Addressing the Injustices: Fixing these issues requires strong government policies, such as progressive taxation (taxing the rich more to fund public services), strictly enforcing labor laws, and improving the quality of public education to create a level playing field for all citizens.
