Community Development and Social Cohesion

A community must grow and remain united to face modern challenges. This is achieved through development and cohesion.

A. Community Development Community development is a process where community members come together to take collective action and generate solutions to common problems. It goes beyond just building infrastructure (like roads or schools); it focuses on building the capacity of the people. It empowers locals to improve their own social, economic, and environmental conditions without relying entirely on external government help.

B. Social Cohesion Social cohesion refers to the "glue" that holds a community together. It is the level of trust, cooperation, and unity among the people.

• A community with high social cohesion is peaceful, inclusive, and resilient. People support each other during crises (like floods or pandemics).

• A community with low social cohesion suffers from deep divisions, inequalities, and frequent conflicts over small differences.
