Civic Responsibilities and Duties — Free written notes for Civic and Community Engagement on EduFlame Pakistan.
Rights and responsibilities are two sides of the same coin. The state can only protect the rights of its people if the people, in return, fulfill their duties. According to the Constitution and civic principles, every citizen has certain fundamental responsibilities:
Loyalty to the State and Obedience to the Law: Article 5 of the Constitution clearly states that loyalty to the state is the basic duty of every citizen. This includes strictly obeying the Constitution and the laws of the land.
Payment of Taxes: The government requires funds to build roads, run hospitals, and maintain security. Paying taxes honestly and on time is a core financial responsibility of a citizen.
Respecting the Rights of Others: Your rights end where another person's rights begin. A responsible citizen exercises their freedom without violating the privacy, dignity, or property of others.
Protecting Public Property: Parks, universities, streetlights, and public transport are national assets bought with taxpayers' money. It is the duty of citizens to protect them from damage and vandalism.
