ICT stands for Information and Communication Technology. It includes all technologies used to collect, store, process, share, and communicate information. Computers, the internet, mobile phones, software, networks, and other digital tools are all part of ICT. ICT plays an important role in education, business, communication, and everyday life.

Components of ICT

1. Hardware

Hardware includes all the physical parts of a computer that can be seen and touched.

Examples of hardware include:

Input devices: keyboard, mouse, scanner
Output devices: monitor, printer
Storage devices: hard disk, USB drive
Processing unit: CPU (Central Processing Unit)

These devices work together to receive, process, store, and display information.

2. Software

Software refers to the programs and instructions that tell hardware what to do.

There are two main types of software:

System Software

System software manages and controls the computer.

Examples:

Windows
Android

Application Software

Application software is designed for specific tasks.

Examples:

Microsoft Word
Web browsers
Video games

ICT Platforms

ICT platforms are digital environments where people use technology to work, communicate, or share information.

Examples include:

Google Workspace
Microsoft 365
Social media platforms

These platforms make communication and teamwork easier.

Networks

A network connects multiple computers and devices so they can share data and resources.

1. LAN (Local Area Network)

A LAN connects computers within a limited area such as:

a building
a school
a campus

2. WAN (Wide Area Network)

A WAN connects computers across larger areas such as:

cities
countries

3. Internet

The Internet is the largest network in the world and connects people globally.

Data Storage

Data storage means saving information for future use.

There are two main types:

1. Local Storage

Data is stored on the user’s own device.

Examples:

hard disk
USB drive

2. Cloud Storage

Data is stored on online servers and can be accessed from anywhere using the internet.

Examples:

ICT has become an important part of modern life. It helps people communicate, manage information, and perform daily tasks more quickly and efficiently. From hardware and software to networks and cloud storage, ICT makes learning and work easier and more connected.
